Parent / Child Classes

Registration for all Winter/Spring Classes will begin Monday, January 7, 2019. Programs are filled on a first-pay, first-served basis, preregistration by the published deadline is required. Payment can be made by credit or debit card by phone or by check or cash in person. Online Registration also available. All classes are subject to 6.5% sales tax. Need and indoor place to play, make things, or get messy, or do you homeschool and would like a place to meet other homeschool families? This is an open class for parents and children to gain new and meaningful experiences, work on social skills, and have fun. Learn and share new songs, dances, and art projects. This is a free, weekly experience, you can come and go as you please. This meet up is gradually evolving and is being tailored around participants, so come and be part of something great!

Learn how to throw pots on a potter’s wheel together with one of your favorite people! Class size will be limited to 4 pairs for individualized attention. Three weeks are devoted to working on the wheel; the last week will be spent glazing your creations. Come to class prepared to get dirty. For children in grades 2 and up with parent/guardian.

Kids and their adult partner work together on projects using earthenware clay, and low fire glazes. The first three weeks will be dedicated to building, the last week dedicated to painting your creations with ceramic glaze. This is a great opportunity to spend time together while sharing a new hobby and plenty of fun memories. Ages 5 and up with adult.

Share with your child age 2 and 3 years the benefits of music, exercise, flexibility and quality time together without worrying about a year-end recital. Activities for the parent and child to participate in together will be shared. Daddies are welcome too!

Bring one of your favorite people, and learn about the materials, tools and terms needed for hand sewing. In this 4 week class, we’ll cover threading needles, knotting thread, pressing, cutting, and pinning fabric. With all of your newly gained knowledge on different stitches, and techniques, you will be able to put those skill to the test and incorporate into your very own hand crafted fabric creations. Did you know you can see a galaxy 2 ½ million light-years away with your unaided eyes? Craters on the Moon with binoculars? Countless wonders await you any clear night. The first step in astronomy for beginners is simply to look up and ask, “What’s that?” This class will introduce you to a lifetime of enjoyment viewing the night sky. Bring your binoculars, telescope or nothing. People wishing to participate should put their name on the interest list at The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Office by March 7, by calling 626-7015.

Join local baker, and cookie artist Robin Niewenhuis, of Sweet Pea Cakery, and one of your favorite people for a night of fun, and cookie decorating. You’ll learn some fantastic insider tips and tricks of cookie artistry, and go home with a dozen royal icing cookie masterpieces. Class size will be limited to 4 pairs for individualized attention. Ages 9 and up with parent/guardian.
